New Opportunity

I was asked this week to write a few different things for an audition to be a host/writer for a YouTube channel. It is an automotive channel that I have been watching for a few years now. They are doing a search and asked for prospective candidates to provide some backstory and other information to start a selection process. I being an aspiring writer and also a streamer/content creator for several years thought “Why not, I would love to write and host a show for this channel.”

I provided the information they requested on Saturday 6/12. I heard back the next day saying that they wanted me to audition. “Holy crap!” I thought. I took a look at the things they wanted me to do for this audition and it was not as bad as I thought it would be. They wanted some self taped videos of me presenting some information that they either provided, so reading a script, or doing research and presenting that information in a no more than 2 minute time period. They also wanted two 500~ word scripts about different vehicle systems (How VTEC works and Why I love cars). They also wanted a 3-4 sentence pitch for a YouTube channel that had nothing to do about cars, I chose a project I had started and have not really done anything with.

Within 24 hours of getting that email I had written around 1000 words, 500 for VTEC and 500 for for why I love cars, and recorded Three 2 minute videos of me explaining different vehicle systems, what car would I buy with $10K, and the importance of heat and penetration in welding. I also recorded the scripted portion they requested, I also blocked that one around the 2 minutes. I am not very good with video editing and I don’t even have the software to do it anymore. So I had to do a couple takes but got them in each in a couple takes, the scripted portion was harder as they were not my words and I did not memorize them.

I heard something back today, not really what I wanted to hear but not bad, they are extending the deadline from today 6/18 to Monday. So I don’t know if this means they want more submissions or if they don’t like what they have already. All I can do is wait and see. I really don’t like this but it is the situation I am in and that’s life. We don’t always get the answers we want and we don’t get them on our timeline. I am hopeful as I think I did a good job with the limited direction I was given, and especially on the timeline I turned everything around. I will post the written portion in the coming weeks. Who knows maybe you guys will like them.
