Adam’s Financial Blunder - Hammer Aftermath

The Necessary Hammering - Hammer Time Part 2

11/12/2023

I left you guys on a little bit of a cliffhanger the last time. I don't normally like to do that but I wanted to get my thoughts out before I met Caleb. I am sorry about that. But hey, you are reading this now so you must have gotten a little invested right? Thanks for coming back and on with the story.

When I arrived in Austin I had about 5 hours to kill before I had to meet up with Caleb and his team. I rented a “Mystery” vehicle from Budget as it was going to be about $75. I thought I would get like a Mirage or some other sub compact. What I was given was a  Hyundai IONIQ 5, an Electric Vehicle. This was my first time with an electric and well, I was not impressed. I don't really have room to complain since it was so cheap, but I see these rolling around everywhere. I just wonder what happened to these owners to make them think this is a good car and actually spend money on them. If you want me to do a review on it I can, just leave a comment and I will do one.

After I got the EV I headed over to my Hotel. I had about 5 hours to kill before the show and  I wanted to rest since I was running on 5 hours of sleep and traveling didn't help. Well, when I arrived they wanted me to pay an extra $20 for checking in early. Check in was 3pm and I was there at 11am. I guess that’s what I get for booking one of the cheapest places in the area. I did not pay the extra. I just moved my rental to a charging station and plugged in as I would need to do that anyways. I hung out in the car and watched some videos and ate my lunch.

The charger was another situation. I unplugged after a few hours as I gained enough charge that It wouldn't be lower than when I picked the car up. It cost about $9 for like 15% charge, that's about $4 more than fuel I would have burned with the gas price around Austin.  But when I unplugged the machine, it thought It was still connected. Later that night when it was nearing 12 hours and it would have charged me a fee for holding the spot I got lucky and one of the maintenance guys was around and reset the machine and it finally read that I wasn't connected anymore. Very grateful for this dude, as the Fee was $6 an hour. Very unjustified when I was connected for over 9 hours at that point.

So after charging it was time to head over to the Studio. I can't go into much detail about the behind the scenes but I can say his staff and himself were awesome and very accommodating. You will need to watch the episode to know what my Hammer Financial Score was. But I can say that overall he thought my situation wasn't insane, definitely not good, but far from any of the worst he has seen, especially as of late. He did think that paying the personal loan off first would make the most sense but if I want to go car first it would make sense also. So it's up to me on how I want to tackle as they are both very positive steps forward. And if my second job pans out I will go from 1.5 years to around 1 year just like I thought.

I know you were wanting more. I want to give more, but I can't. You will just have to watch the episode when it comes out. If for whatever reason my episode doesn't air I will make an inquiry if I can share the experience here. I can't give everything but I should be able to share most.

Thank you for reading and stay tuned. I will be doing a deep dive of my spending for November in a few weeks. In the meantime I am going to continue on with my Crohn’s follow up.
